The Guillermo A. Diaz Garcia AYSO Scholarship
American Youth Soccer Organization Region 644
This scholarship is awarded to preserve the memory of our dear Guillermo
A. Diaz Garcia, who just shy of turning 17, passed away December
30, 2007.
Guillermo was born in Puerto Rico and the youngest of three sons
to Miguel Ariel and Angie. Guillermo moved with his family to Weston
when he was eight years old. He loved his home in Florida and in
Puerto Rico.
Guillermo was a young man who found great joy in the simple pleasures
of life. He was full of life, respectful, able to bring people together
as friends, and always available to help out on the soccer fields.
He was an amazing volunteer in our soccer program. Guillermo, and
the Diaz family, will always remain a part of our AYSO Family.
On behalf of our AYSO region and the Diaz Garcia family, we are
pleased that we are able to establish this scholarship fund.
The Award:
The $1 ,000 scholarship will be awarded to an AYSO Region 644 youth
volunteer, who is a senior in high school, and shares Guillermo's
passion for helping others. In accepting the award, the recipient
agrees to their name being posted in the AYSO Region 644 website
under the Guillermo A. Diaz Garcia AYSO Scholarship link. The award
recipient can list the honor is her/his resume.
Award Application:
Only one entry per student will be allowed.

Complete an essay, no less than 1,000 words, describing what their
volunteer experience within our AYSO program means to them. Please
include four copies of your essay to be distributed to committee
members.
One letter of recommendation from a present AYSO Region 644 staff
member familiar with your volunteer work.
One letter of recommendation from a teacher in the high school you
are currently attending regarding your character and commitment
to community service.
